5th Annual Golf
Tournament
2006 Annual Report
The Union County Chapter of the Firefighters’ Burned Children
Fund, Inc. had a very eventful year. Meetings were held monthly,
sometimes two meetings in one month. Our representative for the State
Firefighters’ Burned Children Fund, Inc. attended the State Meetings;
this chapter paid its $500 administrative fee to the State Chapter and
presented all the quarterly reports in a timely manner, meeting the
By-law’s requirements.
The Union County Chapter used Freddie the Fire truck® in fire safety
education for various groups of younger children through schools and day
cares throughout the year.
There were several opportunities for fundraisers, besides the can
recycling campaign. We held an annual Golf Tournament that was
co-sponsored by Long Wiring Co. held at the Charlotte National Golf
Course (located in Union County). We provided lunch for the golfers and
also held an auction for some donated items and drew for door prizes as
well. We held an annual Softball Tournament which is a competition
between the fire departments. We also handled the concessions during
this event. In November we co-sponsored a Bluegrass Festival and Gospel
Singing. We received all proceeds from the concessions, which we
handled. We get lots of advertising for this event, all over the
country.
The Chapter helped two families that had survivors in the Burn Center
for at least six months. One of these survivors and family is now very
active in Burn Center activities including Camp Celebrate. Recently
there was a fire that took the lives of two young sisters but left one
other sister alive. Everything was lost. We are currently working
through a family friend and the funeral home to assist this family with
needs.
There are currently ten (10) can collection trailers throughout the
county. One is currently being fabricated for one of the elementary
schools at the request of the school principal. The students bring the
cans to the school to be collected for the Fund.
During Camp Celebrate our chapter helped with Young Eagles Day at
Asheboro Airport. At the request of one of the staff members of Camp
Celebrate we provided funds for them to purchase supplies for making
crafts while at the airport. We also fed approximately 50-75 people,
(campers and staff and airport staff), lunch on Wednesday at Young
Eagles Day.
At the end of the year, December 29th, 2006 some of our
members took a trip to the NC Jaycee Burn Center and presented them with
an additional check in the amount of $12,000.
Report accepted by the Union County FFBCF at the January 25, 2007
meeting. Submitted by C. W. Adcock.
Cabarrus County, Charlotte, Landis, Lee County,
Union County, and Wake County Chapters of the Firefighters’ Burned
Children Fund, Inc. received a Special Recognition Award given by The
North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center. This award is given annually to a
select few organizations for all the hard work, contributions, and
continued support of the Burn Center.
